The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa, on Monday joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as “a true patriot, principled leader, and servant of the Nigerian people.”
In a statement he personally signed, Marwa says the late President lived a life defined by “an extraordinary sense of duty and an enduring commitment to the progress, unity, and stability of Nigeria.”
“From his early years as a military leader to his two-term democratic presidency, he remained steadfast in his resolve to build a more disciplined, secure, and self-reliant nation,” Marwa stated.
“He praised Buhari’s tenure for its landmark reforms in infrastructure and agriculture, noting that the former President laid the foundation for national self-sufficiency while prioritizing the fight against corruption and insecurity—often during some of the most challenging periods in Nigeria’s history”.
“Through it all, he led with calm determination, humility, and a rare personal discipline that inspired many,” the NDLEA boss says.
Marwa further highlighted Buhari’s personal virtues beyond politics, describing him as a man of integrity, simplicity, and deep faith. “He governed with a strong moral compass and a sincere commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens. His leadership style—rooted in service over rhetoric—earned him the respect of allies and critics alike,” he notes.
“As we bid farewell to one of Nigeria’s most enduring figures, we reflect not only on his achievements but also on the values he represented: honesty, sacrifice, patriotism, and resilience,” Marwa adds.
“On behalf of his family and the NDLEA, he extends heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family and the entire nation, praying for Allah’s mercy on the departed leader”.
“May the Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come,” Marwa notes.
