Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to global cooperation in combating illicit drugs and transnational organised crime.

The Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated this on Friday during the graduation ceremony of NDLEA officers at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Marwa emphasised that the growing sophistication of criminal networks requires a strengthened, coordinated, and intelligence-driven international response.

A statement by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi says Marwa described the ceremony as particularly significant

He paid tribute to members of the NDLEA’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, calling them heroes whose courage and dedication continue to inspire law enforcement personnel worldwide.

Highlighting the course motto, “Different nations, shared duty, one fight,” Marwa said it embodies the collective resolve of partner nations in tackling transnational crime.

The intensive programme brought together elite officers from Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya, equipping them with advanced skills to disrupt drug trafficking networks and dismantle organised criminal cartels across the region.

Marwa urged the graduating officers to apply their newly acquired competencies with integrity, professionalism, and courage, reinforcing their responsibility to protect communities and uphold justice.

He also expressed appreciation to the United States Department of Justice, DEA leadership, and instructors for their continued partnership and investment in capacity building.

He concluded by expressing optimism that the collaboration between the NDLEA and the DEA would continue to grow, yielding sustained successes in the global fight against illicit drugs and organised crime.
