Nigeria has stamped its authority on youth beach volleyball as four of its teams—two boys’ and two girls’—secured spots in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Continental Championship in Abuja.
The quarterfinal clashes holds on Wednesday, August 6, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the picturesque Jabi Lake venue, where fans can expect thrilling action and intense competition.
In the girls’ category, Nigeria I and Nigeria II progressed after commanding Round of 16 victories on Tuesday. Nigeria II will face The Gambia, who advanced after eliminating Nigeria III, while Nigeria I will battle Algeria in what promises to be a highly competitive match.
Other fixtures in the girls’ division will see DR Congo lock horns with Morocco, and Egypt I take on Egypt II in an all-Egyptian encounter, guaranteeing at least one Egyptian team in the semifinals.
For the boys, Nigeria I squares off against Egypt II, who advanced under dramatic circumstances following an injury to a Ghanaian player during their previous match. Nigeria II faces a tough challenge against Morocco I, one of the tournament’s most consistent teams.
The remaining quarterfinal ties will feature Egypt I against The Gambia, and DR Congo against Morocco II.
Nigeria’s strong presence in both categories reflects the country’s sustained investment in youth development and the growing appeal of beach volleyball nationwide.
Speaking on the sidelines, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, Engineer Musa Nimrod, praised the tournament’s standard and the talent on display.
“I am very pleased with the performance of all the players from Day One,” Nimrod said. “What we are witnessing is proof that Africa is brimming with talent and potential in beach volleyball.”
He emphasized the need for consistent training and international exposure, asserting that Africa could soon produce athletes capable of competing at the highest global levels.
“If these players are well guided and compete regularly in tournaments like this, Africa has a real chance of becoming a dominant force on the global stage,” he added.
