The Nigerian Army has commenced the building of a new training depot at Amasiri-Edda in Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.

According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele, the project approved by President Bola Tinubu is aimed at strengthening national security and expanding military training across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony Ebonyi State Governor, Dr. (Builder) Francis Nwifuru, thanked the President and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the depot.

Governor Nwifuru says the facility will create recruitment opportunities for youths from Ebonyi and the South-East, while supporting peace, security, and socio-economic development in the region.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, commended host communities for their support.

He says the depot reflects the President’s vision for equitable military infrastructure and inclusive national representation.

Major General Fadairo urged South-East youths to take advantage of recruitment opportunities, stressing that equal access is available to all states.

He also highlighted that collaboration between the military and local communities is crucial for addressing contemporary security challenges.

The ceremony included the formal handover of land documents by Governor Nwifuru to the Nigerian Army, received by Major General V.U. Okoro, Chief of Training. Both officials also laid the foundation blocks for the new depot.

The Amasiri-Edda depot is the Nigerian Army’s third training facility, joining Zaria (est. 1924) and Osogbo (est. 2025).

The project underscores the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives, expanding training infrastructure, and meeting evolving national security needs.
