Nigeria’s Crude Oil Production Rises To 1.8m bpd — NNPCL

Nigeria’s crude oil production has risen to 1.821 million barrels per day (bpd), including condensates, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) said on Thursday.

NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this at the 2026 Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) Conference in Lagos.

Speaking on Ojulari’s behalf, NNPCL Chief Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said the increase reflected improved regulations and increased upstream activities.

He said the measures had improved the operating environment and accelerated activities across the upstream sector.

“Today, we are doing 1.821 million barrels per day,” Ojulari said, adding that Nigeria had recorded more than 80 per cent success in its efforts to boost production.

The conference was themed, ‘Access To Assets: Empowering Players & Driving Growth.’

The development came days after the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, said improved collaboration between the government and industry stakeholders had helped remove bottlenecks that previously slowed investment.

Lokpobiri also said drilling activities had increased significantly, with active rigs rising from fewer than 10 when the administration assumed office to more than 70.

He said sustained drilling was crucial to increasing production and achieving Nigeria’s target of about three million barrels per day.

Nigeria produced 1.678 million barrels of crude oil and condensate per day in August 2026, representing a 0.4 per cent increase from July.
