The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, Chairman of the Institute’s Academic Advisory Board, who died on Saturday.
In a statement, Prof. Sulaiman describes the news as “shocking and devastating,” paying tribute to Prof. Yaqub’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s academic and public service sectors.
Prof. Yaqub, a former Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University and the University of Abuja, was a celebrated academic whose intellectual legacy shaped the lives of students and policymakers nationwide.
Prof. Sulaiman lamented the loss of such an accomplished scholar and political scientist, emphasizing the value of his knowledge and expertise, especially during Nigeria’s current development challenges. He described the late scholar as an illustrious son of Kogi State and a national asset whose influence on academia will endure.
On behalf of NILDS, Prof. Sulaiman extended heartfelt condolences to Prof. Yaqub’s family, Kogi State, and the academic community, praying for Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Janat Firdaus and to give his loved ones the strength to bear this profound loss.
