The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has reiterated the Institute’s commitment to supporting innovative initiatives that enhance the performance of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Professor Sulaiman made this known on Wednesday when he received a six-man delegation from the FIRS, led by Dr. Umaru Idris Ahmed, Director of the Inter-governmental Relations Department, during a courtesy visit to NILDS’ permanent site.

Commending the FIRS for its visionary move in establishing the Inter-governmental Relations Department, the NILDS DG emphasized that Nigeria has the potential to thrive without reliance on crude oil, provided tax mechanisms are fully developed, effectively implemented, and supported across all sectors.

In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman recalled that NILDS was the first institution to organize a three-day retreat on tax reform imperatives, held last year in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

He noted that this proactive role in tax discourse led to the Institute’s inclusion in the Presidential Committee on Tax Reform and Fiscal Policy, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu.

He also expressed appreciation to the FIRS delegation for their visit, which coincided with the sixth anniversary of his leadership at NILDS, having assumed office on May 28, 2019.

Professor Sulaiman assured the FIRS team of NILDS’ readiness to collaborate strategically in ways that serve the national interest.
