The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has expressed sadness over the recent fire outbreak at Ita-Nma Market in Ilorin.

The incident, which occurred on Friday night, has been linked to a power outage, leaving traders devastated as goods and livestock worth millions of naira were destroyed.

In a statement issued on January 13, 2025, by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman sympathises with the affected shop owners and urged for increased vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.

He further called on relevant agencies, including the Fire Service, to ensure that firefighting equipment is readily available in markets.

The DG also appealed to the Electricity Distribution Company to address frequent power outages, emphasising the need to safeguard lives and property.
