President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod, has hailed the milestone in the country’s volleyball development journey.
Nimrod made the statement on the sidelines of the ongoing National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball League in Abuja.
The CAVB Zone 3 Secretary noted that the progress seen in this year’s league is a clear reflection of the federation’s grassroots development programs and support initiatives, which are beginning to yield tangible results.
He emphasised that clubs from across the country, many of which lack elite players or the resources to compete in the Premier League, now have a viable platform to grow and showcase their talent.
Particularly uplifting, he said, is the exponential rise in the number of female teams, which, to him, symbolises hope and a promising future for women’s volleyball in Nigeria.
He said, “Our efforts are bearing fruit, as we continue to churn out young players who are hungry for the game. These boys and girls will now have the opportunity to grow within the sport, gain vital experience, and develop into elite athletes with a champion’s mindset.”
He stressed the importance of the league system in building a sustainable talent pipeline, noting that the era of drafting players into the national teams or Premier League without development through structured competition is over.
Acknowledging the ongoing journey, Nimrod called on the volleyball community and enthusiasts to remain patient with any inconsistencies in the process, assuring them that the federation remains open to positive ideas and contributions.
He said, “We are witnessing a gradual revolution in Nigerian volleyball. The sport is growing, and with it comes a new generation of coaches, vibrant young players, and energetic officials.
Nimrod also extended appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff for the crucial collaboration, and affirmed that the federation will continue to complement sponsor contributions to ensure the smooth running of the leagues.
He also thanked various state governments, agencies, and private clubs for their participation despite economic challenges.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, but one day, we will have our Rome if we all come together. Let’s join hands to make history.”
