NMDPRA Threatens Petrol Stations Over Under-Dispensing

By Mardiyyah Abubakar

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has warned petrol station operators against under-dispensing products, threatening to revoke the licences of persistent or serious offenders.

The regulator issued the warning in a circular on Tuesday in Abuja, saying it had identified cases of under-dispensing at retail outlets across the country.

The NMDPRA described the practice as a serious breach of consumer trust and directed operators to immediately calibrate and verify their fuel dispensers and totalisers.

It said the exercise would ensure accurate measurement and guarantee that consumers receive the quantity of petrol they pay for.

The authority also said it had intensified nationwide inspections and enforcement activities.

According to the NMDPRA, outlets found under-dispensing products or using improperly calibrated equipment would be required to take immediate corrective action.

It warned that persistent or serious violations could attract sanctions, including the revocation of operating licences.

The regulator also directed major industry groups, including MEMAN, DAPPMAN, IPMAN and PETROAN, to inform their members about the directive.

The NMDPRA said it would continue to protect consumers, promote transparency and ensure the integrity of petroleum product transactions nationwide.
