The Northern Senators Forum has called on the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently reinforce security along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor in Adamawa State following attacks on two military battalions.
According to the forum, the attacks on 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha reportedly killed three soldiers, a forest guard and civilians.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the forum calls for a coordinated security strategy to prevent further attacks across affected communities.
The attacks occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, in several communities across Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas, including Garaha, Dabna, Bangna, Mubang, Zah, Bitirhuya, Kwapre, Mayo Ladde, Gaya-Dlang, Garkida, Boima and Guyaku.
The senators said residents had also reported killings, abductions of women and children, destruction of property, burning of places of worship and displacement.
In response, the lawmakers urged security authorities to strengthen operations along the corridor and take measures to prevent further attacks.
They also called on residents of affected communities to provide security agencies with timely information that could help prevent attacks and protect vulnerable residents.
Meanwhile, the forum urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the North East Development Commission to provide relief materials and other assistance to affected and displaced families.
The senators expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and called for sustained security operations to restore peace and enable displaced residents to return home.
