The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has rehabilitated and empowered fifty-seven beneficiaries of its Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) with various start-up kits and work tools to help them rebuild their livelihoods.
Speaking at the presentation of empowerment materials to three beneficiaries at the Fund’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, Managing Director of NSITF, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
Faleye, who was represented by the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Mrs. Nkeiru Ede-Ogunnaike, emphasized that vocational rehabilitation—comprising reorientation, training, and empowerment of injured or disabled workers—remains a core statutory function of the NSITF under the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) of 2010.
She noted that the initiative was part of the Fund’s sustained efforts to ensure that workers who suffer work-related injuries or disabilities are not abandoned but provided with opportunities to live productive and independent lives.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Philip Anjor Terwase (furniture making), Daniel Onah Imale (auto diagnosis), and Nanbur Ezekiel (POS operation), expressed gratitude to the Fund for giving them a fresh start and the means to earn a living.
The Employees’ Compensation Scheme, operated by NSITF in line with the provisions of the ECA, requires employers to contribute one percent of their employees’ salaries as premiums.
The Fund, in turn, provides compensation, rehabilitation, and other forms of support to workers in cases of work-related injuries, disabilities, occupational diseases, or deaths.
