Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, has described the Nigeria Labour Congress as a critical partner in advancing social protection and safeguarding the welfare of workers across the country.

Addressing the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the congress in Lagos, Faleye noted that the NSITF remains a major stakeholder in promoting workers’ rights and benefits.

He conveyed the goodwill of the Fund’s Board and Management to the NLC, stressing that both organisations are united by a shared commitment to improving workers’ welfare.

“The Fund is your veritable partner in the social protection and security of all Nigerian workers whose welfare you represent,” he said.

Faleye hailed the leadership of the NLC for its consistency in advocating for improved conditions of service, describing the congress’ efforts as vital to the collective advancement of labour rights.

“I want to place on record the steadfastness of the NLC and its leadership in advocating for enhanced welfare for all Nigerian workers. We see this commitment every day in the passion and courage demonstrated by your leadership, including your representatives on the NSITF Board,” he added.

The NSITF boss also highlighted the Fund’s statutory mandate, emphasising its role in providing compensation, claims, and support for work-related injuries, disabilities or death.

He said the Fund’s operations are anchored on both prevention and protection, particularly through its Health and Safety Initiative, which promotes safe work environments across the private and public sectors.

Faleye noted that ensuring full compliance with the Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS) remains central to strengthening the resilience of Nigeria’s workforce.

“It is important to continue to hold employers accountable for compliance with the Employee Compensation Scheme. It is through this scheme that we can guarantee that every worker understands they are protected should anything happen in the course of their duties,” he said.

The Managing Director reiterated that the NSITF will continue to work closely with the NLC to ensure that Nigerian workers receive the protection and support due to them under the law.
