An ultra-modern, FIFA-standard mini stadium built by the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Victor Ochei, has made a strong first impression after successfully hosting the 2025 Onicha Olona Unity Cup in Onicha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The newly completed sporting complex, fitted with tartan tracks and state-of-the-art facilities, proved its quality and readiness as it welcomed football fans, community leaders and emerging talents from across the area for the annual grassroots tournament.

The venue earned widespread praise for its design, comfort and functionality throughout the competition.

Speaking at the event, Ochei explained that the project was driven by his passion for grassroots sports development and a desire to support government efforts in providing quality sporting infrastructure.

According to him, the mini stadium boasts modern fans’ barricades, a well-engineered drainage system, covered spectators’ stands and other features that meet international best practices.

Although already in use, Ochei revealed that the facility will be officially inaugurated in 2026, adding that it is designed to serve as a hub for grassroots football, local league teams and even national team activities.

“This stadium is about giving young talents the right environment to grow. When you invest in quality infrastructure at the grassroots, you create opportunities and hope for the future,” he said.

The NTF president also assured stakeholders that the federation is fully prepared for the 2026 Davis Cup, scheduled for February, expressing confidence in his administration’s plans to reposition tennis in Nigeria.

He called on members of the Nigerian tennis community to remain optimistic, stressing that his leadership is focused on long-term development and international competitiveness.

The tournament climaxed in an exciting final, as Ogbekenu Quarters edged Ogbe-Obi Quarters 3–2 in a thrilling encounter to lift the 2025 Onicha Olona Unity Cup.

Ogbekenu Quarters went home with a ₦3 million star prize, bringing the event to a colourful and celebratory close.

The successful hosting of the Unity Cup has further highlighted the impact and readiness of the new stadium, reinforcing Victor Ochei’s commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment in Delta State and beyond.
