Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has called on the people of the South East region to take full advantage of the programmes and initiatives of the federal government, warning that lack of participation could deprive them of vital opportunities for growth and empowerment.

A statement signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour, Patience Onuobia quotes Onyejeocha as making the call in Ebonyi State while inspecting and commissioning the Federal Government’s ultra-modern Skills Upgrading and Vocational Training Centre (SUVTC) in Ekwetekwe, as well as launching the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) in the state.

The Minister explained that the LEEP, a flagship initiative of the Ministry under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to create jobs, build skills and promote sustainable empowerment for Nigerians. She noted that the programme would further strengthen the operations of the SUVTC in Ebonyi.

“Do not lose hope in the Federal Government’s initiatives and interventions. I plead with you, leaders, parents and guardians, to get your sons, daughters, wards and the youths of your communities to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President. Get them to enrol in empowerment programmes,” Onyejeocha urged.

She emphasised that creating opportunities for people to acquire skills not only empowers individuals but also enables them to contribute back to society, creating a ripple effect of empowerment. According to her, the LEEP is an all-inclusive initiative targeted at youths, women, men, the elderly, people living with disabilities and the less privileged.

The Minister also commended the government of Ebonyi State for providing a supportive environment for federal empowerment programmes to thrive.

Speaking at the event, Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by the Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Ann Aligwe, highlighted the state’s ongoing investments in skill development and empowerment. He noted that the SUVTC would complement the state’s efforts in boosting the socio-economic well-being of the people.

The event underscored the Federal Government’s resolve to deepen its empowerment agenda across the country, with the South East region urged to take a more proactive role in embracing available opportunities.
