The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has strengthened collaboration with the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria as part of renewed efforts to combat cybercrime and financial fraud across the country.

The partnership was reinforced during a high-level visit by bank chief executives to the NPF-NCCC headquarters in Abuja, underscoring a growing public-private approach to addressing cyber-enabled financial crimes.

The Centre’s Director, CP Ifeanyi Uche-Henry, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, digital forensics, and strategic partnerships at both national and international levels.

He outlined the Centre’s core responsibilities, including cybercrime investigation and prosecution support, digital forensic analysis, social media monitoring, cyber intelligence gathering, threat assessment, and the protection of Nigeria’s critical information infrastructure.

A statement on Thursday by the Force Public Relation Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, notes that effective collaboration with financial institutions is essential, as banking platforms are frequently targeted and exploited by cybercriminals.

Leading the delegation, Nixon Iwedi, ACIB, Chairman of the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Signature Bank, said the visit followed earlier engagements with the Inspector-General of Police in Lagos aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and the banking sector.

Iwedi commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the NPF-NCCC, for its professionalism, resilience, and sustained efforts in tackling cybercrime and financial fraud within Nigeria and across international borders.
