Police: Benue Hospital CMD Arrested, Not Abducted

By Mardiyyah Abubakar

The Benue State Police Command has clarified that the Chief Medical Director of Multicare Hospital, Makurdi, Dr Jonah Ogbaji, was arrested and not abducted.

The command say operatives of the Special Tactical Squad attached to the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, arrested Ogbaji at his hospital in Makurdi.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, disclose this in a statement issued on Thursday.

Reports had circulated on social media that the medical doctor was abducted around 9pm on Wednesday while attending to patients at his hospital along Ankpa Road, Makurdi.

Ogbaji’s daughter, who identified herself as Patience, also told journalists that her father had been abducted and appealed for his safe return.

However, Aondongu describe the abduction reports as a “false alarm” after the command verified the incident.

He said Ogbaji was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation being handled by the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.

The police spokesperson said the specific circumstances surrounding the investigation were not yet known to the state command.

The command advised residents to disregard reports claiming that the medical doctor was abducted or kidnapped.
