President Bola Tinubu on Monday reassured that his administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the resolution of internal security challenges such as banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping.
Coming on the heels of renewed killings in Plateau, and other parts of the country, the President pledges to effective policing, safety of lives and property.
President Tinubu, stated this in Abuja on Monday during the maiden edition of the National Police Day celebrations to mark the 2025 Police Week where he was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The President described the force as a cornerstone of the nation’s security and the first line of defence against crime.
He maintained that the police are protectors of the nation’s democracy and the custodians of citizens’ safety.
He restated his administration’s resolve to engender a force that is well-trained, well-motivated and well-equipped with modern tools and technology to effectively combat crime in Nigeria.
This, he said, had become necessary to ensure that the nation’s security forces are constantly “steps ahead of those who threaten the peace, welfare, and prosperity” of the nation.
” As President, I reaffirm this administration’s steadfast dedication to the welfare and empowerment of the Nigeria Police Force.
” A secure Nigeria is vital for our collective prosperity, and this vision begins with ensuring that our police force is well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated.
“We are resolute in our commitment to police welfare and comprehensive reforms.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who recommitted to policing in line with global standards said the significance of this day also provides a solemn opportunity to remember the nations fallen heroes; who have paid the ultimate price in service of our dear nation.
“We acknowledge the Federal Government’s ongoing support towards repositioning the Nigeria Police Force. Investments in training, modern equipment, and institutional reform are significantly improving our operational capacity”.
“Under the able leadership of Mr. President, the Nigeria Police Force is evolving into a more accountable, responsive, and service-driven organisation. We also appreciate the National Assembly for its legislative commitment to strengthening our institutional framework”.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has promised to institutionalise April 7 every year as National Police Day to honour fallen heroes of the force and acknowledge the roles of its personnel.
