The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled an early-morning armed robbery attack on motorists in the Kado area of Abuja.

The police in a statement on Sunday by it Spokesperson Josephine Adeh says it also recovered weapons and other exhibits after a gun duel with the suspects.

She says the incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, following a distress call received at the Mabushi Divisional Police Headquarters reporting that three armed robbers were attacking motorists near the MRS Filling Station in Kado.

According to her, Police operatives from the Mabushi Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and on sighting the patrol team, the suspects attempted to flee, resulting in a hot pursuit and an exchange of gunfire.

The statement adds that during the encounter, one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the other suspects escaped into nearby bushes.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of several exhibits, including the suspects’ operational vehicle — a black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW — one Barreta pistol, one locally made pistol, a Firman generator, two mobile phones, an Access Bank ATM card, a catapult, pliers, clothing items, footwear, and other personal effects believed to be linked to the criminal operation.

Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the territory.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the police.

The incident underscores the FCT Police Command’s rapid response capability and continued crackdown on criminal activities within the nation’s capital.
