A viral social media video has helped Nigerian police track a murder suspect to Ghana, where he was arrested and later repatriated to Nigeria.
The suspect, Victor Fejemirokum, was wanted over the abduction and murder of an FRSC officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement by its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Monday to mark the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation.
Police said investigators used information from the viral video to trace Fejemirokum’s movements to Ghana, where the Ghana Police Service arrested him.
The Force said the case demonstrated how intelligence sharing and international cooperation can help track fugitives who cross national borders.
The police also announced the arrest in Lagos of Mark Okoh, a Brazilian national wanted in connection with cocaine trafficking.
Okoh, who allegedly fled Brazil after jumping bail, was arrested in Okota, Lagos, following international police coordination. Extradition proceedings to Brazil have commenced.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu said the Nigeria Police Force would continue to strengthen cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement agencies.
He said timely intelligence sharing, coordinated investigations and cross-border support were critical to preventing criminals from exploiting national borders to evade justice.
The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and stronger international partnerships to tackle transnational crime.
