Prof. Sulaiman Mourns Late NTA Veteran Broadcaster, Abdulrazak Akanbi

The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) broadcaster, Abdulrazak Akanbi, the Ilorin-born media icon who died at the age of 66.

In a condolence message released on Monday by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman described the late Akanbi as a consummate professional whose career left an enduring mark on Nigeria’s broadcast journalism landscape.

He noted that Akanbi’s contributions to the growth of NTA, particularly his exemplary service at NTA Ilorin, remain a model for young and aspiring broadcasters.

“His journey in broadcast journalism and his remarkable sojourn at NTA Ilorin stand as a well-accomplished tour of duty. Even in death, his pedigree will continue to inspire generations of broadcasters,” Sulaiman said.

The NILDS boss fondly recalled the late Akanbi’s impeccable career spanning the 1980s and 1990s, noting his fluency in news delivery, seamless anchoring of programmes, and authoritative analysis of topical issues.

He added that Akanbi’s professional brilliance kept many viewers glued to their television sets and inspired younger Nigerians to pursue careers in journalism.

Professor Sulaiman prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and reward his good deeds with a place in Al-Jannat Firdaus.

He also condoled with Akanbi’s family, friends, colleagues, and the NTA management, urging them to find comfort in the legacy of excellence, passion, and mentorship he left behind.

He further encouraged NTA staff to uphold the late broadcaster’s values, particularly his dedication to quality documentary production and his mentorship of younger professionals.
