The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed three senior police officers and demoted 16 others over cases of misconduct.
The Commission also approved severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others, while clearing three officers of wrongdoing.
It says some officers who had previously been suspended were also reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.
The decisions followed the Commission’s plenary meeting in Abuja, chaired by its Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, says the disciplinary actions followed established cases of serious misconduct and behaviour considered unbecoming of police officers.
Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to tackling corruption, human rights violations, interference in land and civil disputes, and other forms of misconduct within the police force.
He also pledged to ensure the timely resolution of disciplinary cases before the Commission.
The PSC chairman commended members of the Board, its disciplinary committee and relevant officials for their work in reviewing disciplinary cases and appeals.
