Following the advent of the rainy season, the FCT Emergency Management Department, (FEMD), has barricaded the Ring Road 2 Interchange in Galadimawa, Abuja, a move which the agency described as part of preparedness and mitigation with the aim to save lives and property against any onlslaught of flooding.
In a statement released to newsmen on Tuesday, Head, Public Affairs at FEMD, Nkechi Isa quoted the Acting Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed as saying, “the water level on this slip road is building up and this place will be flooded soon, the closure is meant to forestall any loss of lives and property when the flooding does happen.”
He appealed to residents of the FCT for patience and to seek alternative routes, adding that the slip road should have been closed to vehicular movement in June, but the Department had been monitoring the water level in the Territory before taking such action.
He further appealed to residents not to drive into pools of water, but to wait for it to recede and to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of a disaster.
Recall that heavy floods on the slip road which connects Goodluck Jonathan Expressway with Ring Road 2 at Galadimawa in 2019 claimed the life of the Director of Finance in the FCT High Court, Mr. Tony Okecheme.
