The Head Coach of Ranchers Bees Football Club, Kaduna, Patrick Bassey, has resigned with immediate effect, citing security lapses, poor welfare conditions, and persistent interference in technical decisions by the club’s management.

In a resignation letter dated December 2, 2025, and addressed to the club chairman, Bassey said the working environment had become “unprofessional and intolerable,” despite the team’s strong start to the season. Ranchers Bees currently sit second on the league table after three matches.

Security Concerns and Threats

Bassey said the management repeatedly directed the team to embark on night travels after fixtures, including trips to and from their temporary home ground in Minna, Niger State, a practice he described as dangerous.

He also alleged threats to his life from supporters before and after matches, claiming the management failed to address the issue and, at times, “instigated supporters to harass the head coach.”

Poor Welfare and Working Conditions

The outgoing coach criticised the club for failing to provide basic welfare provisions for players and officials.

He said the absence of a camp hindered player supervision while the lack of essential equipment, including football boots, undermined the team’s performance.

He described the feeding arrangement as “absurd,” saying the team often relied on pre-packaged meals while preparing for league games.

He further alleged discriminatory treatment during a league match in Kebbi, where players received N10,000 for feeding while he was given N5,000.

Bassey also faulted the club for failing to provide mobility for the head coach, which had been part of his agreed benefits.

Management Interference in Technical Matters

Bassey accused the management of consistently disrupting his control of the dressing room. He said club officials frequently interrupted team talks and even altered substitution plans during matches.

He argued that such interference “distracted from team progress” and made it difficult to implement a coherent coaching strategy.

Impossible to Continue

While thanking the fans for their support, Bassey said the combined impact of security risks, welfare lapses and administrative interference made it impossible for him to continue in the role.

His resignation is expected to spark conversations within Kaduna’s football community, especially given the team’s early-season momentum.

The club has not yet issued an official response.
