The newly reconstituted Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the postponement of the party’s planned National Convention, pending the determination of an appeal currently before the Court of Appeal.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its inaugural and emergency meeting held in Abuja on Friday, the BoT said the decision is guided by the landmark judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on October 31, 2025, which it described as binding on all party organs and officials.
The Board reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to unity, justice, equity, and progress values it said remain the foundation of Nigeria’s largest opposition party.
It urged all party members and organs to comply fully and immediately with the court’s judgment.
“The BoT commends the Judiciary for its courage and professionalism in upholding the supremacy of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, INEC Guidelines, and the PDP Constitution,” the statement read.
The PDP’s highest advisory body emphasized that while it supports the conduct of a credible, transparent, and inclusive National Convention, all pre-convention processes must strictly adhere to constitutional and judicial provisions.
The BoT warned that any action taken in contempt of the Federal High Court judgment would be “null and void,” noting that prudence demands that the convention be postponed until the Court of Appeal delivers its decision on the pending appeal.
It further clarified that the judgment of the Federal High Court “remains superior and weightier in law” than the interim order of the Oyo State High Court.
In a significant leadership reshuffle, the Board announced the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as its new Chairman and Honorable Isah Dansidi as Secretary.

The appointments, the BoT said, followed the decision that the immediate past Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, could no longer continue in their roles after publicly taking sides in the ongoing intra-party dispute.
The inauguration of the new BOT further exercebates the crisis rocking the opposition party as there now seems to be two factions both at the level of the National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees.
The new BoT however appreciated the other faction which they described as “outgoing officers” for their service to the party and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Reaffirming its role as the “conscience and stabilizing moral compass” of the PDP, the BoT pledged to promote reconciliation, inclusivity, and internal harmony across all levels of the party.
“The Board shall actively mediate among stakeholders, promote inclusivity, and prevent divisive tendencies that threaten party cohesion,” it stated.
The BoT also called on members to demonstrate maturity, mutual respect, and collective commitment to strengthening the party’s unity and democratic culture.
It reiterated its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and constitutionalism within the PDP, stressing that adherence to due process remains the only way for the party to retain its credibility and national relevance.
