The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Monday announced a N20 million donation to the family of Hassan Makuku, the Vice-Principal of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, who was tragically killed during a bandit attack in Kebbi State.
Makuku lost his life while shielding students during the attack, which occurred on Sunday, November 17, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area., where bandits abducted approximately 25 schoolgirls.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Musa Krishi, Speaker Abbas describes Makuku’s sacrifice as “heroic and selfless”, calling on Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris to immortalise the late educator by renaming the school in his honour.
“This is a man who died in active service, sacrificing his life so others could live,” Speaker Abbas said. “We pray for him and urge His Excellency to honour his bravery by naming the school after him.”
During a high-level solidarity visit to Kebbi State, Speaker Abbas expressed shock at the attack, describing it as a wake-up call for all levels of government to strengthen strategies against insecurity.
He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to national security reforms and pledged full support for the rescue of remaining abducted students.
“The House is with you. Our hearts are with you. We are ready to support every effort to secure those still in captivity and protect our communities,” he said.
The Speaker met with Governor Idris, members of the Kebbi State Executive Council, and the State House of Assembly, underscoring the federal legislature’s resolve to collaborate with state authorities on enhancing security measures and safeguarding schools against future attacks.
