The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru to stay away from Rivers State politics and be careful with public statements.

Wike issued the warning during a “thank-you” visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area, accusing the APC of benefiting from funds linked to N600 billion reportedly left in the state’s coffers.

The warning followed comments by APC Vice Chairman (South-South) Tony Giadom, who allegedly called Governor Siminalayi Fubara “the so-called governor” and claimed he could not secure a second term without Wike’s backing.

Basiru reacted on social media, calling the remark “unfortunate” and stressing that the governor’s office deserves respect.

“The office of the governor is an exalted position, and whoever occupies it must be respected, irrespective of political affiliations,” he wrote.

Wike fired back, describing Rivers State as a “no-go area” for political interference.

“Take this message to your National Secretary: leave Rivers State alone… Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted. You must be careful with the statements you make,” Wike said.

Meanwhile, Renewed Hope Ambassador for Rivers State, Desmond Akawor, accused the state government of neglecting Oyigbo, calling for fairness in resource distribution.

“Development in Oyigbo has stalled. If N40 billion was allocated across groups, Oyigbo must not be shortchanged,” he said.
