Political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections took centre stage in Rivers State as indications emerged that past leadership choices at the state level may be reviewed.

The signal came during a gathering at Khana Local Government Area, where residents and political leaders hosted a high-profile visit in Bori.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said leaders must reflect the will of the people and not pursue personal interests.

He stated that lessons had been learnt from previous decisions and assured supporters that the state would not repeat the same errors in 2027.

Wike said his visit was to appreciate the people of Khana for their support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections, describing it as a bold move at a time many were hesitant.

He noted that the area had since benefited from federal attention, including improved infrastructure, educational institutions and key appointments.

He added that future political decisions in Rivers would be guided by development goals rather than party affiliation, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, more projects and opportunities were expected for Ogoniland.

Lawmakers, council officials and women leaders at the event praised the federal government for increased development in the area. They pledged continued support for President Tinubu and assured Wike of their readiness to mobilise politically in the years ahead.
