The Rivers State House of Assembly will resume plenary at 10:00 a.m. today, marking its first legislative session in six months since President Bola Tinubu declared — and later lifted — a state of emergency in the state.

Speaker Martins Amaewhule will preside over the sitting, which will take place at the Conference Hall of the Assembly Quarters. The venue has served as a makeshift chamber since the Assembly’s official complex on Moscow Road was razed by arson and subsequently demolished by the state government.

Despite attempts by the outgone Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to expedite reconstruction of the Assembly complex, the project remains unfinished, leaving lawmakers to continue legislative business from temporary quarters.

Political observers say today’s plenary will be a defining moment for the Amaewhule-led Assembly, as it reclaims its constitutional role after months of executive oversight. Analysts predict the session could set the tone for renewed power play between the legislature and Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
