Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on newly elected local government officials in Lagos State to prioritize service delivery and grassroots development, following the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victory in the just concluded council elections.
In Saturday’s polls, the APC secured all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions, signaling strong voter confidence in the party’s leadership at the grassroots level.
While congratulating the APC family for the resounding victory, Sanwo-Olu was quick to emphasize that political success must now be matched with performance. “This victory is not just about numbers; it’s about the people’s expectations,” he said in a statement on Sunday. “Our communities are looking up to us to improve infrastructure, sanitation, healthcare, youth engagement, and education.”
The governor reminded the newly elected chairmen and councillors that “the real work begins now,” noting that the credibility of any administration lies in its ability to fulfill campaign promises. He pledged full support and collaboration from the state government, saying his administration will work closely with all local government structures to drive inclusive growth and people-centered development.
Observers noted the smooth conduct of the elections across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), with the APC consolidating its control at the grassroots amid calls for transparency and responsiveness in governance.
The governor further assured Lagosians of continued collaboration with the incoming local government officials to deliver grassroots development
