Speaker Abbas Demands Transparent Probe Into Miners’ Deaths

By Oluwakemi Kindness

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has demanded transparency and accountability in investigations into the deaths of suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody in Niger State.

Abbas described the deaths as “painful, unfortunate, and avoidable” and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Musa Krishi, Abbas says the probe must ensure justice for the victims and produce lasting solutions.

He said the investigation should address prison congestion, operational guidelines, suspects’ rights and welfare.

The Speaker also commended Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago for preventing a breakdown of law and order following protests over the deaths.
