Speaker Abbas mobilizes ex-CPC loyalists to back Tinubu ahead of 2027 polls.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has pledged the “unconditional support” of members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) for President Bola Tinubu, while unveiling plans to mobilize a nationwide movement for his re-election in 2027.
Speaking at a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Speaker Abbas said former CPC members across Nigeria have resolved to establish “Former CPC Members for Asiwaju” structures in all states, local governments, wards, and polling units to consolidate support for the administration and ensure Tinubu’s second term.
“Your Excellency, I want to assure you that CPC members will be at the forefront of ensuring you return in 2027 to continue the good work you are doing for this country,” Abbas declared.
According to a statement on Wednesday, by the Speaker’s SA media, Musa Krishi, the Speaker, who was first elected to the House in 2011 on the CPC platform, dismissed claims of disunity among former CPC members, stressing that over 90 percent remain firmly aligned with Tinubu’s leadership.
He also thanked the president for the respect accorded to the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, and acknowledged Tinubu’s role in forging the 2013 merger that birthed the APC.
“This is the very first day that former CPC members have gathered in large numbers to show appreciation for what you are doing. We are with you today, we will be with you tomorrow, and we will be with you forever,” Abbas said.
The Speaker noted that the current administration has given unprecedented recognition to CPC members, citing the appointment of ministers, chief executives, and three serving governors of CPC extraction.
