The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their courage, discipline and commitment in defending the country against internal and external threats.

In a message issued on Thursday to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Speaker paid tribute to officers and men who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as national heroes whose sacrifices must not be forgotten.

The message, conveyed by his Special Adviser on Media, Musa Krish, also acknowledged serving personnel for their resilience and dedication to protecting lives and property across the country.

It notes that their professionalism remains critical to national unity and security.

Speaker Abbas said the Armed Forces have played a key role in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy, contributing to the country’s socio-economic and political stability since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies, stressing that the House of Representatives would continue to strengthen institutions responsible for national security to enable them to carry out their constitutional duties effectively.

The Speaker also expressed confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu to address Nigeria’s security challenges, citing ongoing efforts to review and adjust the nation’s security architecture.

As part of the 2026 Remembrance Day activities, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony held in Abuja.

He performed the ritual alongside the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and observed the traditional military salute in honour of fallen heroes.

Speaker Abbas concluded by wishing officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces a peaceful Remembrance Day and urged Nigerians to continue to honour the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
