President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba alongside several soldiers in Borno State, describing the incidents as painful setbacks for the nation’s security.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Wednesday, the President said, “I am heartbroken by the abduction of our daughters in Kebbi and the painful loss of Brigadier General Musa Uba and the brave soldiers who fell in Borno. Their families and the families of the kidnapped schoolgirls are in my prayers.”
Tinubu said he is “deeply depressed” by the loss of soldiers on active duty and prayed for strength for their families.
Condemning the attack on Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State, the President described the abduction as an assault on education and children’s rights.
“I am also depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged what he called a “recent uptick in violent extremism in pockets across the country” and said he had ordered security commanders to respond “with urgency, clarity, and decisive action.”
He appealed to communities to work closely with security forces, saying intelligence sharing is critical to preventing further attacks.
“Our forces need the full cooperation of every community. Sharing information can save lives and protect our children,” he noted.
The President also issued a stern warning to armed groups threatening national peace, saying they would face “the full weight of the Nigerian state.”
