A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday along the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway by Villa Bridge in Abuja, as a Volkswagen bus belonging to Quest Capital Company fatally knocked down a pedestrian, identified as 55-year-old Musa Shaibu.
According to a statement from the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) through its Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, the incident happened after the bus reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and hit the pedestrian from behind as he walked along the expressway.
The statement added that FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team responded promptly, evacuating the victim to the Asokoro General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased, Musa Shaibu, hailed from Ida in Kogi State and was believed to be trekking at the time of the accident. While his immediate family resides in Kaduna State, authorities were able to contact a cousin based in Abuja through the victim’s mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody by the police for further investigation.
