National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Washington Spirit has officially recalled Nigerian international, Deborah Abiodun, from her loan spell at Dallas Trinity, the club confirmed on Tuesday evening through its official channels.
Abiodun, who penned a three-year contract with the Spirit in January with an option extending through 2028, began her professional career in Washington following an outstanding collegiate run at the University of Pittsburgh, where she spent two seasons establishing herself as one of the NCAA’s most dominant midfielders. Immediately after signing, she was loaned to Dallas Trinity to secure consistent playing time and accelerate her development in the competitive U.S. league.
During her stint at Dallas, the Super Falcons midfielder featured prominently, logging over 750 minutes across 14 appearances, including eight starts. Her performances in the NWSL, coupled with impressive outings for the Nigerian women’s national team, caught the attention of the Spirit’s technical crew. Interim General Manager Nathan Minion expressed delight at her return, saying: “We’re thrilled to bring Deb back to the Spirit as we approach the home stretch of the 2025 season. After following her impressive performances with Dallas and Nigeria this year, we’re confident she’ll integrate seamlessly and help us achieve our goals.”
Abiodun’s recall comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, with Washington Spirit keen on bolstering their squad depth ahead of the business end of the season. Her energy, versatility, and international experience are expected to play a pivotal role as the club pushes for a strong finish in the league.
