TUC Backs Shehu Mohammed-Led ASCSN

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has reaffirmed the leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) led by Comrade Shehu Mohammed as the union’s recognised and legitimate leadership.

In a public circular signed by its Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, the TUC said the position followed the outcome of ASCSN’s Delegates Conference held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on August 12, 2024.

The Congress said the conference was observed by the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Amos Falonipe, as well as Festus Osifo who was then the President General of TUC and Secretary General, Toro.

The TUC expressed concern over activities of individuals and groups allegedly parading themselves as ASCSN leaders, describing such actions as unauthorized and capable of undermining the unity and discipline of the labour movement.

It said reliance by the alleged impostors on a lower court judgment was misleading, noting that the judgment is currently under appeal at the Court of Appeal by the Shehu Mohammed-led administration.

According to the TUC, until the legal issues are finally determined by the competent courts, the individuals concerned have no authority to represent or transact business on behalf of ASCSN.

The Congress therefore advised Ministries, Departments and Agencies, employers, development partners and the public to deal exclusively with the Shehu Mohammed-led leadership.

It also called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services, to investigate alleged impersonation and take appropriate action.

The TUC said it would deploy all lawful and institutional mechanisms to defend ASCSN and uphold democratic processes within the labour movement.
