President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Victor Ochei, has paid a heartfelt tribute to late Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, describing him as a courageous leader, loyal friend and a proud son of Ibusa whose legacy will endure across Delta North and beyond.

Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly said he received the news of Senator Nwaoboshi’s passing with deep sorrow, noting that Nigeria has lost a statesman whose life was defined by service, conviction and unwavering commitment to his people.

“Peter was my big brother and friend. We shared a long political journey. Even when we stood on different sides, our mutual respect, friendship and dedication to the progress of Delta North never wavered,” Ochei stated.

Recalling their final moments together, Ochei revealed that he last saw Senator Nwaoboshi on 29 November 2025 at the funeral service of the father of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba.

According to him, they exchanged warm greetings, unaware it would be their last physical meeting.

“When I didn’t see him at the reception, I called him the next day. He told me he wasn’t feeling well, and I sympathised with him, not knowing that would be our final conversation,” he said.

Ochei further disclosed that during the call, he suggested a meeting of Delta North political leaders before the end of the year.

Senator Nwaoboshi, citing his unavailability in December, asked Ochei to convene the meeting on his behalf, referring to him as second in command. They eventually agreed to plan for January 2026, with hopes of meeting again.

“Sadly, that meeting will never happen,” Ochei lamented.

Describing the late senator beyond politics, Ochei said Nwaoboshi was warm, thoughtful and genuinely passionate about the welfare of his people, adding that his death is a painful loss to Delta North and all who knew him.

He extended his condolences to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North and everyone impacted by the late senator’s life and leadership.”

“Farewell, my big brother. May your soul rest in peace, and may your memory forever be a blessing,” Ochei concluded.
