The Flying Eagles of Nigeria held hosts Black Satellites of Ghana to a 1-1 draw in the opening fixture of the 2025 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The match kicked off with Ghana taking early control, pressing high and keeping the Flying Eagles on the defensive. Their pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when team captain Aziz Misbau broke the deadlock, giving the Black Satellites a deserved lead.
Nigeria gradually found their rhythm and pushed for an equaliser in the second half. Their persistence paid off 10 minutes from time as Abdullahi Muhammad found the back of the net to bring the score level.
Despite late efforts from both sides, neither team could find a winner, and the game ended in a stalemate.
Aliyu Zubairu’s team will now turn their attention to their next group match against the Benin Republic. The Flying Eagles are the defending champions of the competition and will be aiming to build on this result as the tournament progresses
