The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu.

He said those who stood by the President when it was politically difficult will continue to support him now that things are easier.

Wike said he and his supporters openly backed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election when many were afraid to do so, especially in Rivers State.

The minister spoke on Saturday in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, during a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders.

The meeting was held alongside an end-of-year thanksgiving service organized by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche.

Wike urged stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu despite intimidation and political pressure in the state, assuring them that their efforts would not be in vain.

He said those who stood with Tinubu before the election are well known, unlike those who only began chanting “on your mandate we shall stand” after the President’s victory.

“Politics is about taking a stand when it matters most,” Wike said. “In 2023, many people were afraid to come out openly to support President Tinubu. We did, even when it was tough, and today it has paid off.”

The FCT minister emphasized that his political philosophy is based on commitment and consistency, stressing that agreements must be honored.

“Agreement is agreement. If you know you cannot do something, don’t say it,” he said, adding that politics would resume fully from January next year.

Wike also dismissed criticism against him, noting that his insistence on standing by agreements is the reason he is often attacked.

He concluded by reassuring his supporters that their decision to back President Tinubu remains firm. “We supported Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu when it was difficult, and we will continue to support him now,” he said.
