Wike Defends Tinubu’s Legacy, Commissions Key Abuja Road Project

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a strong defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, while commissioning the newly completed Apo-Wassa Road in Abuja, a major link under the long-delayed Outer Southern Expressway project.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Wike reaffirmed the government’s resolve to revive and complete abandoned infrastructure across the capital, dismissing critics as politically driven and wilfully blind to progress.

“If you want to die because we named the refurbished International Conference Centre after President, go and die. I have land to bury you,” the minister declared — a remark that drew raucous applause from supporters.

He described the naming of the revitalised International Conference Centre in honour of President Tinubu as a “deserved tribute,” urging detractors to judge the administration on its achievements rather than political sentiment.

Wike acknowledged that criticism is part of democratic governance but warned against what he called “dishonest and agenda-driven narratives,” insisting that deliberate misinformation undermines national development.

“This is not about petty politics,” he said. “We’re focused on real development, not social media noise.”

The Apo-Wassa Road commissioning marks a major milestone in easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the southern section of the FCT. The road, stalled for several years, is now part of a broader infrastructure push under the current administration.

The Minister invited public scrutiny of both the cost and quality of completed projects, urging Nigerians to compare them with historical benchmarks dating back to 1991.
