The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of a deepening political crisis in Rivers State, saying reconciliation and unity are steadily taking shape across political divides.

Speaking during a thank-you visit to Okrika Local Government Area on Saturday, the former Rivers State governor said long-standing political rivalries were easing and that engagement in the state was no longer defined by factional boundaries.

Wike said the current political alignment in Rivers was driven not by party loyalty but by a shared commitment to collective progress, noting that stakeholders had learnt from past divisions and were now determined to move forward together.

“There is no longer any no-go area,” he said, stressing that cooperation among leaders had replaced internal conflicts.

The FCT minister also dismissed claims that his political influence had weakened, arguing that electoral success was built on effective organisation, mobilisation and consistency, rather than public speculation or assumptions about voting strength.

Responding to criticism, Wike defended his record in public service, citing his academic background and years of experience in both elected and appointed positions.

He said attacks on his credentials often came from political actors with limited electoral success.

He further denied allegations of using his office to persecute opponents, explaining that some of the legal issues referenced by critics predated his current appointment.

Explaining the purpose of his visit, Wike said it was to appreciate loyal supporters and reaffirm long-standing political relationships.

He warned that financial resources alone could not guarantee political victory, emphasising leadership and public trust as critical factors.

The minister thanked the Okrika community, including women groups, for their continued support, assuring them that their loyalty would not be taken for granted and that engagement with the area would be sustained.
