Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the slow pace of construction at the new Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District.

The project, scheduled for completion in September 2025 to align with the Court of Appeal’s legal year, now appears unlikely to meet the deadline.

Speaking after inspecting the site on Monday, Wike told journalists he was “not too satisfied” with the progress and cast doubt on the contractor’s ability to deliver on time. “I’m afraid; I don’t think the contractor will meet up,” he said.

Despite his concerns, the Minister remained confident the project would still be completed and handed over before the end of 2025.

He disclosed that he has summoned the contractor for an urgent meeting to map out strategies to accelerate the pace of work.

“This is one project that is dear to Mr. President,” Wike emphasized, referring to President Bola Tinubu’s interest in the Appeal Court facility. He vowed to ensure it does not exceed this year.

In contrast, Wike expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction of Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, a 40-unit residential project for Justices of the Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and Court of Appeal. The project is slated for completion in January 2026.

He praised the contractors for maintaining speed and quality, expressing confidence it could be delivered ahead of schedule. “We are impressed with the speed of work. They may be able to hand over before January 2026,” Wike said.

Wike reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring judges are housed in secure and dignified environments. “What Mr. President has done is to ensure that they have that autonomy… to carry out their job,” he added.
