The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has praised the “incredible transformation” across Abuja.
Speaking after an inspection tour of infrastructure projects in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and other districts, the minister said the pace and quality of development across both urban and rural communities reflect a new chapter for the nation’s capital.
“Abuja is becoming something else. These developments are not just in the city; they’re reaching rural areas as well. It shows Abuja has come back to life.”
Mr Wike attributed the progress to the “unwavering support” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the administration’s commitment has enabled world-class infrastructure delivery across the territory.
Reflecting on past efforts, the former Rivers State Governor criticised what he described as years of underperformance. He said if the current momentum had been sustained since 1999, Abuja would be “far ahead of where it is today.”
He also made a passionate appeal to residents to safeguard public assets, warning that vandalism undermines communal well-being.
“Government has done its part. Streetlights, roads, water channels, these belong to the community. When you vandalize them, you’re hurting yourself and your neighbours.”
With 19 infrastructure projects set for commissioning in the coming weeks, the minister declined to single out any for special praise, Instead, he said each project addresses different needs, whether for transportation, water access, or security.
He also linked infrastructure development to food security, noting that improved road networks are vital for connecting farmers to land and markets.
“There’s no point having fertile land if there’s no road to access it. Now, people can move, farm, and trade. That’s what leadership looks like.”
As Nigeria’s capital undergoes this phase of transformation, Wike reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development, promising that “no community will be left behind.”
