Wike, Labour Call Off FCTA Workers’ Strike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and organised labour have reached an agreement to end the strike by Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) workers.

The resolution followed a marathon meeting convened by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, which lasted over three hours in Abuja.

Those present at the meeting included FCT minister Wike, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo, and other labour leaders.

The talks began shortly before 12:00 am and ended around 3:50 am on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Acting NLC General Secretary, Benson Upah, said all issues raised by the unions were fully addressed.

He assured workers that no one would be victimised for participating in the strike and announced that all pending cases at the National Industrial Court (NIC) would be withdrawn immediately.

Upah said Wike also committed to mutual respect and continuous engagement with organised labour.

Following the agreement, all members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), as well as NLC and TUC affiliates working in the FCT Ministry, were directed to resume work immediately.

Labour leaders urged workers to comply with the directive in the interest of industrial peace and harmony.
