The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the government’s commitment to holding contractors accountable for the timely and high-quality execution of critical infrastructure projects in Abuja.

Speaking on Friday after inspecting ongoing road construction projects, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and reassured residents that the projects would enhance connectivity and boost economic growth in the FCT.

Major Road Projects Nearing Completion

During the inspection, Wike visited the 15-kilometer left-side service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) and the single service carriageway of the Inner Southern Expressway (INEX). While acknowledging that these projects were initiated by the previous administration, he commended the contractors for their efficiency and commitment to meeting deadlines.

“Currently, all contractors are performing well,” Wike stated. “The contractor handling the OSEX project, CGC, has assured us that they will accelerate work and complete it by May.”

For the INEX project, Wike noted that significant progress had been made, and the contractor was working diligently to ensure completion by the end of May.

Challenges Resolved, Work Accelerated

The minister highlighted that earlier challenges—such as compensation and resettlement of affected communities along the OSEX, as well as securing approval from the Ministry of Works for INEX to cross the rail line at Idu—had been successfully resolved.

With these hurdles cleared, construction is moving forward without further delay. Wike also confirmed that the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Transportation to cross the rail line had been obtained, allowing the INEX project to advance smoothly.

Accountability and Quality Assurance

Wike emphasized that his administration remains firm on contractor accountability, ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and that Abuja residents benefit from durable and well-executed infrastructure.

“We are not just building roads; we are building the future of the FCT. These projects will significantly improve transportation, ease congestion, and support economic activities in the capital,” he said.

With the contractors fully mobilized and committed to completing the projects as scheduled, residents of the FCT can look forward to improved road networks that will enhance accessibility and economic development in the region.
