Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved over ₦398 million for the 2026 Ramadan feeding and Tafsir programme, expanding support for vulnerable residents across the state.

The programme, to be implemented by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation, will now operate 130 feeding centres, up from 101 last year, covering all 17 local government areas.

Each centre will provide Iftar meals for 100 people daily throughout Ramadan, with thousands expected to benefit.

Official figures show that ₦338 million was approved for the purchase of rams and cooking condiments, while ₦60 million was set aside for allowances for Islamic clerics conducting Tafsir. The government also approved the distribution of 2,300 bags of rice and 400 jerrycans of cooking oil to ensure smooth implementation.

Speaking at the flag-off in Damaturu, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Yusuf Umar, said the initiative reflected the governor’s commitment to social welfare.

“This gesture clearly demonstrates Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to the welfare of the less privileged, particularly during Ramadan,” he said.

Umar warned that the government would not tolerate diversion or mismanagement of items, stressing that officials must act with transparency and accountability.
