The Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) has announced a change of venue for the second round of the 2025 season. Initially scheduled to take place in Kaduna State, the round will now be hosted in Anambra State from the third week of August, coinciding with the popular Yam Festival.
The rescheduling and relocation, according to the league organisers, were necessitated by logistical challenges faced by the original host, Kaduna State.
Confirming the development, NBSL Coordinator, Mahmud Hadejia, disclosed during a virtual meeting with participating teams that the decision to return to Anambra was driven by both necessity and positive past experience.
“Last season, Nnewi delivered an explosive and unforgettable round,” Hadejia said. “It was the first time the league was held in the eastern region, and the energy, fan turnout, and organisation gave the competition a fresh dimension. The teams loved it, and we’re excited to return.”
Nnewi, Anambra State, had successfully hosted the second round of the 2024 NBSL season, earning widespread praise for its festive atmosphere and solid turnout.
In a related update, discussions are ongoing to possibly stage Round 3 of the league in a new location, with Kwara State showing keen interest. The third round is crucial, as it will determine the teams that qualify for the prestigious Super Six Playoffs scheduled for December in Akwa Ibom State.
So far, eight teams are contesting in the 2025 NBSL season, which kicked off with Round 1 in Kebbi State. They include:
Kebbi Fishers BSC (Defending Champions)
Kebbi United
Kada BSC
Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors
Nmanko Patigi BSC
Niger BSC
Ibom BSC
Jigawa Golden Stars BSC
With the second round now set for Anambra, expectations are high for another vibrant chapter in Nigeria’s fast-growing beach soccer league.
