The Girls’ U-12 team of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) clinched the title at the ITF/CAT West African Junior Teams’ Championship in Accra, Ghana, earning a spot at the prestigious Africa Junior Teams’ Championship (AJC).
The tournament, held from September 15 to 19, 2025, at the Gold Coast Tennis Club, featured top junior talents from across West Africa, including Ghana, Togo, Benin, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
Nigeria’s trio; Mofifunoluwa Atilola, Karina Opuene, and Mabubat Rasaki, stood out with flawless performances, winning all their matches and demonstrating exceptional skill and resilience.
In the girls’ final, Team Nigeria dominated host nation Ghana with a commanding 3-0 victory, securing the West African crown and confirming their place among Africa’s elite teams.
While the boys’ team narrowly missed out on qualification, their experience in Accra is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s junior tennis programme and prepare them for future competitions.
Reacting to the victory, the Nigeria Tennis Federation praised the players’ commitment and fighting spirit, reaffirming its dedication to grassroots development and nurturing the next generation of tennis champions.
The triumph underscores Nigeria’s growing prominence in junior tennis on the continent.
As the Girls’ U-12 team now prepares for the Africa Junior Teams’ Championship, all eyes will be on these young talents to carry Nigeria’s hopes and aspirations on the continental stage
