Nigeria has secured a major win in continental sports leadership as Engineer Simon O. Nkom, President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), has been elected to theExecutive Board of the African Hockey Federation (AfHF).

The election took place during the 25th Ordinary Congress of the African Hockey Federation at the Hotel Mercure in Ismailia, Egypt, where hockey administrators and federation leaders from across Africa gathered to chart the future of the sport on the continent.

Nkom’s election marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, cementing the country’s growing influence in African hockey governance.

“This honour is not just for me, but for the entire Nigerian hockey family,” Nkom said in his acceptance remarks. “It is a call to greater service, and I am committed to working selflessly with my colleagues to strengthen and reposition hockey on the continent.”

His emergence has been hailed as recognition of his dedication, professionalism, and sustained efforts toward developing hockey in Nigeria and promoting the sport globally.

The congress also honoured Professor Ediga, who concluded a distinguished ten-year tenure as a member of the AfHF Executive Board. His service was commended by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) President, Mr. Tayyab Ikram, and AfHF President, Mr. Seif Ahmed, both of whom praised his leadership and commitment to African hockey development.

In a statement, the Nigeria Hockey Federation celebrated both Nkom and Ediga, describing their achievements as milestones that reflect Nigeria’s growing stature in the sport.

“Their accomplishments represent a proud moment for Nigeria,” the NHF said. “They embody our collective pursuit of excellence and commitment to advancing hockey both nationally and continentally.”

With Nkom joining the AfHF Executive Board and Ediga receiving continental recognition, Nigeria continues to strengthen its leadership and voice in shaping the future of hockey in Africa.
